What Is a Single Dental Implant, and Are You Suitable?
Three parts. A titanium post where your root was, an abutment on top, and a crown shade-matched to the tooth beside it.
You are likely suitable if:
- You have lost one tooth to decay, injury or a failed root canal
- Your gums are healthy and free of active gum disease
- You do not smoke, or you are willing to stop while you heal
Smoking matters more than people expect. It restricts blood flow to the site, which slows the bone fusing to the post.
Leaving the gap does not stay still. The bone beneath it shrinks, and the teeth either side drift toward the space. An implant fills it before that starts.

How a Single Implant Works — Three Stages
Stage 1
Free consultation and CT scan
Dr Mirza scans your jaw in 3D at our Melton Road clinic. The scan measures bone at the site and maps the nerve and neighbouring roots. We plan the implant position on that data and print a surgical guide. You leave with a written plan and an exact price. You pay nothing.
Stage 2
Placement
We place the implant under local anaesthetic, through the guide. It takes under an hour. IV sedation is available. Most patients return to normal the next day.
Stage 3
Your crown
Your bone bonds to the post over six to twelve weeks. A healing cap or temporary crown protects the site meanwhile. We then fit your final zirconia crown and issue your 5-year warranty in writing.

Brush and floss it like a natural tooth, and run an interdental brush around the crown. The implant cannot decay, but the gum around it can, so keep your hygiene visits.
Not during placement. Local anaesthetic means pressure, not pain, and IV sedation is available. Most patients have some soreness for two to four days, managed with over-the-counter painkillers.
